Hi! At a whopping 5'1", I've always loved being active; as a kid I rode horses, ran around in the woods, and played t-ball. In high school I played varsity basketball and in college I was even on the crew team for a hot second. Then, in my 20's, I wound up with a few herniated discs in my lumbar spine that caused excruciating pain. I went to one of the top PT's in NYC only to be told that there was nothing to be done. He said I was going to live with this pain for the rest of my life, and that I was going have to limit my physical activity. I broke down in tears and then decided that his life-sentence of pain didn't apply to me. I was a professional actress at the time, performing all over the country in Broadway 1st National Tours and regional productions, and I needed to be able to move exceptionally well! Limiting my activity was not an option. I immediately sought out all the information I could to heal myself, including Pilates, and it changed my life.
In my first Pilates class I remember thinking, "What?! My body doesn't do that!? However, within a few years, I was pain free, had transformed my understanding of my body, and I'm stronger today than I've ever been. Our bodies are truly incredible, and when we get into alignment we get out of our own way and return to life. I remember the sense of freedom I had when I was finally able to do things with confidence again, without trying to protect myself from pain, and to actually enjoy pushing my physical abilities to become a stronger, better mover, every day. I love what I do and I can't wait to share it with you. |
